CPCL conducts Emergency Management Seminar for Manali based industries
A one -day seminar on “ Emergency Management ” was organized by Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) at its R&D Centre today (08.02.2011) to impart knowledge on chemical emergency preparedness to Manali-based industries. About 150 participants from Manali based industries attended the seminar.
Inaugurating the seminar, Dr.T.Prabhakara Rao, Principal Secretary, Labour & Employment Department, Government of Tamilnadu stressed the need for Research and Development efforts for the production of less hazardous chemicals so that the impact is minimized at the origin stage itself. He expressed confidence that the seminar would be useful to the participants as it would provide forum for sharing of experiences and knowledge towards preparedness for chemical emergencies.
Mr.K.Balachandran, Managing Director, CPCL in his presidential address outlined the various pioneering measures taken by CPCL to increase preparedness and awareness of chemical emergencies in the Manali industrial neighbourhood. He further stated that with the guidance and support of Inspectorate of Factories, Government of Tamilnadu, the awareness campaign could be taken further to the local community by CPCL.
Mr.K.Ayyanu, Chief Inspector of Factories ,Government of Tamilnadu, in his Key-note address emphasized the need for conducting periodical rehearsals for testing the emergency preparedness and to incorporate corrective measures. Dr.R.K.Elangovan, Director (Safety) , Regional Labour Institute,Chennai in his Special address emphazised the need for developing European based Risk observatory system .
At the outset, Mr.S.Venkataramana, Director (Operations) CPCL, welcomed the gathering. Mr.G.Suresh kumar, Deputy General Manager (Fire & Safety) CPCL, proposed a vote of thanks.
