Vigilance Awareness Week inaugurated
Vigilance Awareness Week is being observed at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) from November 3 to 7.
The week long observance was inaugurated by Mr.N.Vittal, former Central Vigilance Commissioner, at CPCL’s Manali Refinery this morning (03.11.2009). Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Vittal observed that incremental improvement measures in the system are always possible to curb corruption which is anti-poor, anti-economic development and anti-national. He appealed that like the Father of the Nation Mahatmaji who got us freedom by employing what he called judo-strategy against the British that converted their strength into their weakness, we must develop judo-strategy to eradicate corruption from the country. Earlier, Mr.Vittal unveiled a special poster prepared for the occasion and released the revised Vigilance Manual of the Company.
In his presidential address, Mr.K.K.Acharya, Managing Director, CPCL, stated CPCL has continuously strived to enhance transparency in its functioning by adopting innovative methods leveraging technology. A recent one in this regard is the signing of integrity pact with contractors. He mentioned that so far 21 such pacts have been signed with different contractors covering over 80% of the contracted value that amounts to about Rs.900 crores since April ’09.
Earlier, Mr.N.Sankaran, Chief Vigilance Officer, CPCL, in his welcome address, explained the background of observance of vigilance awareness week every year and how the programmes are structured to sensitise the stakeholders of the company towards vigilance practices and improve governance of the company. Mr.N.C.Sridharan, Director (Finance), proposed a vote of thanks.
During the week-long programme, CPCL has planned a number of participative events for students, employees, interaction meet with the vendors/customers, apart from a number of awareness programmes.
