Vigilance Awareness Period Inaugurated

Vigilance Awareness Period is being observed at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) from October 25 to November 1.

The eight-day long observance was inaugurated by Mr.N.Gopalswami, former Chief Election Commissioner, at CPCL’s Manali Refinery this morning (25.10.2010). Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Gopalswami, stated that even in today’s competitive business environment, it is possible to run business enterprises ethically and this calls for a ethical culture which needs to be inculcated into the organization right from the top management to the lowest level. He further stated that eternal vigilance is the price we pay for a democratic living and in that tools like Right To Information Act, Whistle Blowers Policy etc., would help bring out the wrong-doings to the public. Earlier, Mr.Gopalswami unveiled a special poster prepared for the occasion.

In his presidential address, Mr.S.Chandrasekaran, Director (Technical), CPCL, stated that CPCL has undertaken a number of initiatives to improve the vigilance function by means of bringing transparency in business transactions, streamlining systems and procedures etc., Leveraging technology, CPCL displays major tenders on its website so that more number of vendors can participate in the tendering process. Earlier, Mr.Chandrasekaran, administered the Vigilance Awareness pledge to the employees.

At the outset, Mr.R.Balakrishnan, Chief Vigilance Officer, CPCL, welcomed the gathering. Mr.P.Subramaniam, Deputy General Manager (Vigilance), proposed a vote of thanks.

During the period of observance, CPCL has planned a number of participative events for students, employees, interaction meet with the vendors/customers, besides awareness programmes.
