First Batch of BS(PE)
Inaugurated
Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)
and The Birla Institute of Technology (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan,
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an objective
to foster collaboration between the two institutions to promote
educational and research activities pertaining to Process Engineering.
The MoU envisages enhancing the academic qualification of the
employees; to synergize theory and practice on a sustained basis
and provide multi-skilled exposure to upcoming technological
areas and key management concepts.

The First Batch of the B.S. (Process Engineering)
course was inaugurated by Mr.S.Rammohan, Chairman and Managing
Director, CPCL, by lighting a kuthuvillakku, today (13.10.2001)
at CPCL's Refinery Engineering School of Training (RESOT) in

The First Batch of the B.S. (Process Engineering)
course was inaugurated by Mr.S.Rammohan, Chairman and Managing
Director, CPCL, by lighting a kuthuvillakku, today (13.10.2001)
at CPCL's Refinery Engineering School of Training (RESOT) in
Chennai. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Rammohan mentioned that
this has been undertaken to upgrade the skills of not only CPCL
employees but also employees of neighbouring industries. Of
the 75 employees who applied of the course, 25 have been selected
after screening test conducted by BITS (PILANI).
At the outset, Mr. Thomas Antony, General
Manager (Personnel and Administration), CPCL, welcomed the gathering.
Dr.H.B.N.Shetty, former Education Secretary to Government of
Tamilnadu, and Trustee, CPCL Educational Trust, narrated the
contents of the course. Mr.K.Soundarraj, Deputy General Manager
(Corporate HR), proposed a vote of thanks. Senior officials
of CPCL participated.
BITS (Pilani) would run a Off-Campus Centre
at CPCL and conduct educational programmes in Process Engineering
for the sponsored employees of CPCL leading to the - Bachelor
of Science in Process Engineering (B.S. (Process Engineering)).
The part-time course would have 3-year duration with 6 semesters.
CPCL would extend its infrastructure facilities including classrooms
and professional expertise in the conduct of the programmes.
