Mr.S.Chandrasekaran (55) has been appointed as Director (Technical)
of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL). He assumed
charge on July 2. Mr.Chandrasekaran succeeds Mr.R.Sankaran
who retired on attaining the age of superannuation.
Mr.Chandrasekaran is a B.Tech graduate in Chemical Engineering
from Regional Engineering College (REC), Tiruchirapalli. He
has more than three decades of experience in the Oil and Fertilizer
industry. Prior to joining CPCL in 1981, he had worked in
the Fertilizer Corporation of India for about 6 years. In
CPCL, he has served in various capacities in the Operations,
Project Development, Implementation and Commissioning.
Between 1988 and 1995, he was involved right from the preparation
of Feasibility Report to its Clearance by Government, Implementation,
Commissioning and Operations of the 0.5 MMTPA grass-root Cauvery
Basin Refinery (CBR) at Nagapattinam. Between 1997 and 1999,
he was deputed to KNPC’s Shuaiba Refinery as Operations
Section Head. As in-charge of Operations, he successfully
commissioned the Rs.2,360 Crore, 3.0 MMTPA Expansion Refinery
at Manali in 2003. Prior to the appointment as Director (Technical),
as General Manager (in-charge), Mr.Chandrasekaran controlled
the 9.5 MMTPA Manali Refinery’s Operations including
Maintenance, Logistics, Planning, Fire & Safety, Materials
Management and Environment Management.
Widely travelled to Europe and America, Mr.Chandrasekaran
has chaired a number of technical sessions organised by CHT,
OISD, PETRO-TECH etc., Mr.Chandrasekaran is married and has
a daughter and a son.
