“Pooling resources to reduce cost" – Chairman

It is important that we pool our resources as a group to reduce cost especially in the present context of recessionary time, said Mr.Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, while interfacing with the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) during the face2face video conferencing event held today (29.04.2009). With engaging discussions at CPCL, the first face2face forum was launched getting the employees in close interaction with the head of the corporation.

Mr.K.K.Acharya, Managing Director, in his initial remarks, thanked the Chairman for sparing his time to meet with the employees of the company and expressed that despite excellent physical performance CPCL would not be able to post good financials due to inventory loss in Q3. However, much of this has been made up in Q4 and CPCL has registered a GRM of US$ 6 per/bbl. April 2009 is also good at US$ 7 per/bbl. MoU provisional score for 2008-09 is also in “excellent” category.

With great facility Mr.Behuria addressed the employees capturing the various facets of CPCL and its on-going projects especially the Desalination Plant which he promised to visit during his forthcoming visit to Chennai for the Board Meeting on May 19. He also complimented Mr.C.Ramadoss, Refinery Operator, CPCL’s Cauvery Basin Refinery, who has won the Petrotech Innovator Award for the year 2008.

When the floor was opened, a plethora of questions were posed by a cross section of employees reflecting the concerns and aspirations of CPCL. With great personal touch, the Chairman answered them in detail, matching it with encouraging and assuaging words.

He said that the financial performance in 2008-09 is a one-off event in the decades of excellent performance of CPCL. He was confident that in the emerging stable pricing scenario of crude oil and petroleum products, CPCL would post healthy returns. For getting KG Gas to CPCL, all out efforts are being taken up jointly by CPCL and IOCL. In regard to enhancing the capacity utilization of CBR, Chairman recalled his visit to CBR in January 2009, wherein the Board Meeting of CPCL was held for the first time and added that the Board of CPCL is seized of the matter to augment crude supply to CBR with multiple options like utilizing a proximate port that is being set up at Karaikal as also sourcing crude oil from KG Basin.

At the outset, the youngest employee of CPCL Ms.Ramya Mohan, one of the Shram Veer Award (2005) winners Shri Indran and the Best Suggestor Award (2007) Winner Shri S.Sivasankaran, were introduced to the Chairman.

The employees who took part in the first edition of face2face event came out extremely happy having had fruitful interaction with the Chairman through video conferencing mode.
