Independence
Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Chennai Petroleum Corporation
Limited's (CPCL) Manali Refinery Complex this morning (15.8.2004).Mr.S.V.Narasimhan,
Managing Director, CPCL, unfurled the National Flag and took
the salute at an impressive parade by the Central Industrial
Security Force (CISF) contingent stationed at CPCL.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Narasimhan said
the economic reform measures initiated by the successive Union
Governments have started yielding results and India is now considered
a force to reckon with by the industrialised nations.
The Managing Director announced that the Rs.2,360
crore 3 million metric tonnes per annum (mmtpa) Expansion-cum-Modernisation
Project of Manali Refinery is complete in all respects and CPCL
is geared to meet the emerging quality norms of Bharat State
II and Euro III equivalent well ahead of the scheduled date
of 1.4.2005. He further stated that with the prevailing refining
margins and the commissioning of the expansion project, CPCL
would be in a position to further improve the profitability.
"CPCL Board has approved the setting up of the desalination
plant to overcome the perennial water problem faced by Manali
refinery at a cost of Rs.193 crore and the project is expected
to be completed by the 3rd quarter of 2005-06."- he added.
Mr. Narasimhan also distributed service awards and suggestion
scheme awards to the employees.
Senior executives of CPCL and a large number
of employees along with their family members participated in
the celebrations. A cultural programme by the students' added
colour to the function.
Earlier, Mr.Narasimhan hoisted the National
Flag at CPCL's Corporate Office at Teynampet.
