The Off-site
Mock Drill for Manali-Ennore industrial area was conducted by
Mr.Ranvir Prasad, District Collector of Thiruvallur at Chennai
Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)’s Manali Refinery
on January 9
The scenario was LPG leak from one of the
storage spheres of capacity 1400 MT inside CPCL campus. The
mock-drill was started at 10.00 a.m. and completed by 12 noon.
Inside the refinery campus, on-site mock drill was headed by
Mr.K.Balachandran, Director (Operations), CPCL. Once the scenario
was declared as off-site emergency, immediately it was informed
to District Collector, Thiruvallur. The Local Crisis Group and
Manali Industries Association members along with Factory Inspectorate
personnel participated in the mock-drill. Mr.K.A.Mohammed Aziz,
Chief Inspector of Factories, Government of Tamilnadu and Mr.E.M.E.K.Raj,
Director, Regional Labour Institute, Adyar, Chennai witnessed
the mock drill.
The surrounding people were evacuated by the
Police, Fire and Rescue personnel and Home Guards. Traffic was
regulated by the traffic police at downwind direction of CPCL.
The District Collector addressed the evacuated people at Rallying
post, Madhavaram Milk Colony ground.
Later, the Collector took a review of
the Mock-Drill and suggested measures for further improving
the co-ordinated efforts of industry and District Administration,
to effectively tackle industrial disasters.
