Oil conservation Fortnight
is being observed at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)
between January 16 and 31. The two-week long programmes were
inaugurated by Mr.S.V.Narasimhan, Managing director, CPCL by
lighting a kuthuvillakku at a function held at CPCL's Manali
Refinery on January 16.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narasimhan said,
considering 8% GDP growth as per 10th Plan, the demand for petroleum
products in India would increase by around 4-5% during the next
five years. this would necessitate devising methods to conserve
and look for alternate energy sources. ethanol blending in Petrol
to the extent of 5% is one such measure. This has already been
implemented in some States and is expected to be implemented
throughout the country in stages. By conserving petroleum products
you not only help for a good social cause, but also save for
yourself a good amount in terms of money. This applies equally
to both individuals and industries.
In his felicitation address, Mr.R.Sankaran,
Director (Technical), CPCL, called upon the employees to rededicate
themselves for the cause of oil conservation within the refinery
and outside.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr.K.Narayanan, Director
(Operations), said that during this Fortnight mass awareness
programmes would be organized on Transport, Household and Industry
sectors.

(Technical), narrated the various activities to be undertaken
by CPCL during the fortnight, Mr.P.K.Subramaniam, Deputy General
