Republic Day was celebrated
with enthusiasm at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s
(CPCL) Manali Refinery Complex this morning (26.01.2005). Mr.S.V.Narasimhan,
Managing Director, CPCL, unfurled the National Flag and took
the salute at an impressive parade by the Central Industrial
Security Force (CISF) contingent stationed at CPCL.
Speaking on the occasion,
Mr.Narasimhan recalled the nature’s devastation on South
Asia on this date, a month ago. CPCL as a responsible corporate
citizen contributed Rs.2.5 crore to PM’s National Relief
Fund, and its employees contributed a day’s salary amounting
to Rs.11 lakhs to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Mr.Narasimhan
announced that as part of CPCL’s social obligation, the
CPCL has enhanced the funds allocation from 0.5% to 0.75% of
the profit for community development and other social obligations
subject to a limit of Rs. 1 crore. He also mentioned that CPCL
has introduced scholarship scheme for meritorious students studying
in and around Manali.
The Managing Director stated
that the project to augment the capacity of CPCL’s sewage
treatment plant by 2.5 MGD is expected to be completed by April
2005 and additionally the seawater desalination plant with a
capacity of 5.8 MGD to ensure captive availability of water
is also under implementation.
Senior executives of CPCL
and a large number of employees along with their family members
participated in the celebrations. Service Awards/Suggestion
awards were presented on the occasion.
Earlier, Mr.Narasimhan
hoisted the National Flag at CPCL’s Corporate Office at
Teynampet.
