Awarded the prestigious GREEN AWARD

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)'s Cauvery Basin Refinery (CBR) has been awarded the prestigious GREEN AWARD for the second consecutive year by TamilNadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). The award was presented by the Honorable Minister of Environment, Government of TamilNadu, Thiru. K. C. KARUPPANNAN on 07.06.2016 at Chennai during the Environment Day celebration of TNPCB. The award was received by CPCL's Director (Operations) Thiru S.Venkataramana and DGM (CBR) Thiru B.Panneerselvam.

CPCL-CBR takes pride in compliance to statutory requirements like installation of Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations, Online stack monitoring station, Hazardous waste management system including Bio-remediation, Ground water quality monitoring, Occupation Health Hygiene survey, Marine Biological survey and Green House Gas Emission survey. Recently CPCL-CBR has commissioned an online Effluent quality monitoring station for continuous monitoring of treated effluent water quality from the refinery.

CPCL-CBR is also proud to have taken several initiatives towards environment protection which includes maximizing gas firing in the refinery replacing fuel oil that contributes to pollution, installing of low NOx burners in the furnaces, maintaining a green belt in the refinery premises, installing of rain-water harvesting system in the refinery buildings, use of renewable solar energy, reducing effluent quantity by combined DM & RO operations, maximising reuse of treated effluent, maintaining an Eco pond and installation of secondary seals in Class-A petroleum storage tanks in the refinery to reduce fugitive emissions from storage tanks.

The GREEN AWARD from the Government of TamilNadu for the second consecutive year re-energises CPCL, a responsible corporate citizen, to rededicate ourselves to the cause of environment protection.
