Dedication of CPCL’s Residue Upgradation Project to the Nation

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL)’s Residue Upgradation Project was dedicated to the Nation by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas & Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, at CPCL’s Manali refinery on 27th Feb 2018. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan lighted the traditional Kuthuvilakku to inaugurate the event along with other dignitaries in the dais. While addressing the audience, he said CPCL is an important industry in this area and caters to several downstream companies and congratulated CPCL for the well timed expansion. He added that CPCL has moved to cleaner products, and more LPG, Diesel and Petrol will come out of this process.

Earlier, Shri Sanjiv Singh, Chairman, IOC group of Companies, in his welcome address, said that CPCL’s residue upgradation project is a major step in increasing the production of much needed petroleum products to meet the ever increasing energy needs of Tamilnadu, while also improving profitability of the company. The project has generated direct employment for 130 persons in addition to the development of contractors engaged in the operation and maintenance of these facilities. CPCL is one of the major revenue contributors to the Central and State Exchequer in the form of VAT and CST in Tamilnadu region.

Shri K. Pandiarajan, Minister for Tamil Development, Culture and Archaeology, Government of Tamil Nadu, said this was a historic day for the company which is a pride of Tamilnadu. He also appreciated the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work carried out by CPCL in education, healthcare and skill development in the neighborhood.

Dr. P. Venugopal, Member of Parliament, Thiruvallur constituency, Shri T.G. Venkatesh Babu, Member of Parliament, North Chennai constituency and Shri K.P.P. Samy, Member of Legislative Assembly, Thiruvottiyur constituency, and other senior officials from Central and State Govt., Oil marketing companies and neighboring industries graced the occasion along with active participation from employees of CPCL.
A film about the Residue Upgradation Project was screened on the large LED screens put up for the occasion.
